It's August, and the news cycles have moved on many times over. I am a person who lost my beloved 123 yrd old historic home (lived there 30 yrs) in the January So Cal Fires (Altadena). People have pretty much moved on to the next thing. I'm still neck deep in what my next steps will be.
We left with nothing and are still deeply involved in the aftermath. Will I rebuild? Don't know - I am underinsured. Grateful for housing we had through FEMA through April, and we were so very fortunate to get an apartment in May - oh and then I fell and broke my hip... but that's not related to the fire, it's just another challenge I've had this year. A major one.
My daughter was rescued from the fire and was hospitalized from the trauma for a week.
I am so very grateful for the Army Corp of Engineers and the compassion as well as effort that was extended to me to ensure that I cleared my property while they were there - that is a story all on its own. What a beautiful group of people that I interacted with.
I've had PTSD. Can't function properly. My daughter works 7 days a week to stay occupied. She had her very first moment of recognizing the loss (her entire life) this past weekend. A treasured object was the tipping point for her.
We are working very hard to find a new normal. I am not able to do my customary work (coaching and. consulting) in my current mindset - it wouldn't be fair to clients. Good news is that I'm seeing the light.
I have not earned a single dollar this year. People were emotionally moved after the fire to help - now, not so much.
I want you to know people are still hurting. Still processing, Still trying to find a new normal. Our entire community was disrupted. Don't know if I will ever see some people again.
