Previous $20ish items here. I need to start doing this (self-linking, but also sharing objects I like) more.
A friend asked this morning how I decide what I’m going to write about on Substack. I said once a week I sit down and think about what I’d most like to share with friends (because my friends read this newsletter!). Sometimes that’s a story about my family. Sometimes it’s stuff I found at the drugstore that makes my life easier.

OK, I’m not sure what in the AI-Advertorial-Slop is going on, but I sprinkled among my feed are 20 identical-seeming articles that promise travel hacks and then list suspiciously similar items—Away suitcases and packing cubes, capsule, the Ankner powerbank. It all sounds like computer-generated promo nonsense, other than the powerbank, which I hear is great. It also made me realize I’ve been hoarding recommendations for what’s been helpful to me this summer, so here goes:
